Quote - Berger on The Voice of God

I keep seeing this on Ryan Dueck's sidebar (though I haven't read the book). Here's Peter Berger, in The Heretical Imperative:

It is not given to men to make God speak. It is only given to them to live and to think in such a way that, if God’s thunder should come, they will not have stopped their ears. (pg. 172)

i wonder if the source or the blogger - or you, even - believe that God 'speaks' - present tense...

or has He already 'spoken' and all we are left to do is re-hash his thoughts? i personally believe closed revelation is the supreme example of man's hubris - that we essentially thought we could decide that God has spoken enough and 'there ain't no more.' i think God speaks wherever and whenever He darn well pleases...
